And to Live United means mobilizing that power to support and, where necessary, develop programs that also address the underlying causes of the community’s needs, with the long-term goal of ending those needs.

Which is why Living United means more than just financially supporting a childcare program. It’s also introducing curricula to that program that help prepare children to become lifelong learners. It’s informing the parents of those children about available tax credits and career development opportunities that can improve their financial stability. And it’s ensuring that all the family members are informed about quality, affordable health services in their community.

Education. Income. Health. These are the pillars upon which strong lives are built. And if any of these pillars become weak or unstable, it’s difficult – if not impossible – to move ahead in life. To Live United is to create opportunities for all persons to achieve strength and stability in their Education, Income, and Health.

This comprehensive philosophy of problem-solving is an improvement upon earlier approaches that sought only to fund familiar programs year after year. The modern United Way approach is built around a constant – and comprehensive – analysis of the community and the forces at work in it.
